Their Favorite Shirt...by the dozen!

 
This shirt style is one of my original designs, and continues to be the most requested style by my clients.

I have clients who order this "Island Shirt" by the dozen...but this weekend I only made 3, including this one from distressed white linen. It has a nice trim fit, and looks good made from many different fabrics.  I always enjoy making this style...it is my very favorite :)

    Thanks Gwen, and yes, seriously.

    Over the past few years I've had clients order up to a dozen of this shirt style (in various colors) on a single order. If I am particularly busy when that kind of order comes in, I have a small "shirt-making staff" who come in to cut, make buttonholes and sew-on the buttons:)

    Very elegant design, especially the pen holder in the pocket. If one would get used to such comfort, one might not change the shirt day after day!

    Really enjoy the band collar on white fabric especially.

    Regarding the fit of the collar, could you give me a tip for the shape of the band when CB doesn't sit properly on the neck? I'm thinking my band draft should be entirely curved so it hugs my neck. my neck thrust is forward enough that a straighter band with a curve starting at roughly the shoulder seam isn't sufficient.

    Hi Cristian, yes curving the band at CB will help..but beware of curving it too much.

    The easiest way to change the band-collar pattern piece so that it has a little more curve at CB and hugs the neck, is to remove the extra fabric that is causing it to be floppy there-- slash the band collar pattern piece at CB starting from the top, but leaving it barely attached at the seam edge, and then overlap the cut edges by 1/8"-barely 1/4". After you "true" the curves, your new pattern piece is ready to go :)
