Thank-goodness my sewing slump has passed...I was beginning to think that this beastly hot and humid summer had finally defeated me! But this past week, just as shirt orders for clients were starting to come in, I took some time to design and draft the pattern for a new dress for Julianna, age 4. It's made from cotton coordinates from Fabric.com, and a "deconstructed then reconstructed" wire-stem silk flower from the dollar store :) If anyone is interested in how I use these silk flowers on clothing and how to make them totally washable, how to assemble them, etc...let me know in the comments section, and I'll do a quick tutorial for you :)
After I make a couple of new outfits for Julianna's little sister, it's back to shirt sewing full-time! I have some ideas for new shirt design details, and in the upcoming weeks I'll also be showing you some ways to make a regular shirt pattern into a slim-cut version.

Good morning! ha! cleaning/clearing the sewing room... I am SO ready to divest. How/where do you send the rejects? We have a small ASG group locally that doesn't do a lot of clothing sewing and I can't bear to throw it away. any help with good "destinations?"

ReplyDeleteHi everyone! Kathie, I teach sewing to women and older children at a local women's shelter...so all of my "extra" fabric goes there. Many of the women and children arrive with only the clothes on their backs and some are interested to learn a new skill...even if to only pass some time and/or take their minds off their situations.

I organized my knits over the weekend and was astonished to discover that I had 33# of rayon/lycra knits. (That's not including the cotton knits or the sweatshirt-weight ones.) Yipes!

ReplyDeleteI am so glad you have your mojo back. Now I am trying to get mine back as well. We are cleaning out sewing room today and moving it to another room. I need my now sewing room for a baby bed for my grandbaby when he visits. Yes, I collect (hoard) fabric!! My husband just told me that if I live to be 100 , I will never get all of this "mess" sewed up. I just hope his next wife likes to sew!!

Gorgeous dress. Hmmm my only problem with collecting fabric is the thought of when I die ... what will happen to it? I really don't want my family left with the burden of doing something with the fabric, the haby, the do dads, the blah blah ..... oh well!
