Mojo/Sewjo is back!

Thank-goodness my sewing slump has passed...I was beginning to think that this beastly hot and humid summer had finally defeated me! But this past week, just as shirt orders for clients were starting to come in, I took some time to design and draft the pattern for a new dress for Julianna, age 4.  It's made from cotton coordinates from Fabric.com, and a "deconstructed then reconstructed" wire-stem silk flower from the dollar store :) If anyone is interested in how I use these silk flowers on clothing and how to make them totally washable, how to assemble them, etc...let me know in the comments section, and I'll do a quick tutorial for you :)

After I make a couple of new outfits for Julianna's little sister, it's back to shirt sewing full-time!  I have some ideas for new shirt design details, and in the upcoming weeks I'll also be showing you some ways to make a regular shirt pattern into a slim-cut version.

But first, I really MUST clean my sewing studio...I have been so lazy this summer!  I swear, if I haven't touched it within 24  months (that sounds so much better than 2 years, doesn't it?)...anyway...fabric not touched within 24 months? Out it goes!  As one of my Facebook friends asked recently, Do you ever feel that it will take nothing less than a bulldozer when it comes to clearing your sewing spaces?  Or am I the only fabric hoarder collector out here ?

  2. Good morning! ha! cleaning/clearing the sewing room... I am SO ready to divest. How/where do you send the rejects? We have a small ASG group locally that doesn't do a lot of clothing sewing and I can't bear to throw it away. any help with good "destinations?"

  3. Darling dress! I just recently finished one with silk flowers as well. They add such a nice dimension. Sophie loved the addition of the flowers. Glad business is hopping for you.

  4. Hi everyone! Kathie, I teach sewing to women and older children at a local women's shelter...so all of my "extra" fabric goes there. Many of the women and children arrive with only the clothes on their backs and some are interested to learn a new skill...even if to only pass some time and/or take their minds off their situations.

  8. Add me to the list for the silk flower tutorial. That dress is darling. Now to the bad stuff: I tried Sunday afternoon to organize all the fabric. No luck. Need more than an afternoon! Will donate some to a local shelter and to a fledging quilt group.

  9. Yes, I'd like to learn how to make the flowers washable.

    I love the dress.

I organized my knits over the weekend and was astonished to discover that I had 33# of rayon/lycra knits. (That's not including the cotton knits or the sweatshirt-weight ones.) Yipes!

I am so glad you have your mojo back. Now I am trying to get mine back as well. We are cleaning out sewing room today and moving it to another room. I need my now sewing room for a baby bed for my grandbaby when he visits. Yes, I collect (hoard) fabric!! My husband just told me that if I live to be 100 , I will never get all of this "mess" sewed up. I just hope his next wife likes to sew!!

  16. Yes, please tell us about the flowers. I know my grand daughter would love one added to the next outfit I make.
I always feel better knowing it's not just me in the fabric collecting business. I sew ALOT but I the "out" pile doesn't keep up with the "in".

  17. Gorgeous dress. Hmmm my only problem with collecting fabric is the thought of when I die ... what will happen to it? I really don't want my family left with the burden of doing something with the fabric, the haby, the do dads, the blah blah ..... oh well!

As with all the others, the dress is fabulous. I do very little children's sewing, but ALSO along with everyone else, would LOVE a tutorial, since I could use this on my personal sewing. Hope you figure out your sewing stash problem - we ALL have one! Glad to see you're feeling better. Thanks for your great site!
