New distresing technique? Umm...No....

I was looking forward to finishing this shirt this morning, photographing it for you to see, and sending it to my client tomorrow bright and early tomorrow morning.
And then....

...As I was standing there looking at it, my hand cramped (from dystonia..a nasty side-effect from medication), and OMG I dropped my coffee cup !
This shirt is a total loss, and I have to start from the beginning with new fabric...sigh.
Oh well, it could have been worse...I could have spilled coffee on my hand-drafted paper pattern, or my hand might have cramped as I was walking near the sewing machines.   But oh what a beautiful shirt this wudda-cudda-shudda been !

  1. But what a great blog post it made. I'm sure you can probably hear the collective GASP through the computer screen.

So sorry for the loss of your shirt. Hope the dystonia is dormant soon. It's an awful side effect.

Hope the rest of your Sunday is happy.

  2. I hope you don't have to deal with this medication much longer. I am sorry this mucked up for you. It looks so perfect other than the coffee dye job.

  4. Wow - Larri is seriously glass half full (no pun intended).

That is traumatizing!!! So sorry your work is for naught. But I can tell it was beautiful, as will the next one be.

  5. Oh no!!!! I'm so sorry that happened, but at least it was just the shirt and nothing more. Still, that totally sucks.

  6. Oh no! That's looks like something I'd do, except I have no excuse I'm just a really clumsy person :\

  7. OMG, I'm so sorry that happened! Glad it was just a shirt though.

The next one will be just as beautiful.

  8. Oh, no. I hate when that happens. And it has. Pick yourself up, dust yourself up and start all over again!

  9. Oh, drats, that is too bad. The next one will be just as beautiful but it is disappointing when things like that happen.

  10. I am sorry that happened. I am not sure if you can wash... but I have a lot of luck with OxyClean (I am just a happy customer of them).

  11. If you have more of that fabric, can't you replace that piece and continue? It might be easier to just recut everything though.

  12. Groan. What a gorgeous shirt. Can you finish it up and remove the coffee stain? Not for your client, of course.

  13. I often limit drinks in the sewing room to water cause I've done stuff like this before. My sympathy.

  14. Hi Shams, No, darn-it the shirt is a loss. It was cut for a client who has specific fitting challenges...so finishing it would be pointless.

Hi Susan, I do not have more of that fabric...it was the last of the length.

Hi CBH, Cannot wash it...the seam allowances that I need to flat-fell would ravel away.

This shirt is history...I'm on to the next :)

  15. Coffee dye the entire shirt? I know that probably wouldn't work either, but it was the first thing that came to mind. Yes, I did gasp.... SO been there, done that!!! :(((

  16. Well bummer, well better the shirt than you get burned. If that was hot coffee! I am sorry you have to start over.

Why not soak the shirt and pattern pieces in a bowl of coffee. Then you will have a "tea stained" blue shirt. Could be interesting. Give it to the client as a freebie. Would make a great story for you and him and who wouldn't want a free custom fitted shirt?

  18. Oh no....very unfortunate this happened :( but first thing I thought of was lucky you didn't burn yourself

Fels Naptha bar laundry soap. It will take it out.
edge finish it and wash it.

  20. ...well I did try to salvage this shirt..edge finished the seams quickly, then threw everything at it, including rubbing a wet bar of Fels Naptha into the stain. After 4 tries, there was still a shadow, I had wasted precious time...so I moved on to the next garment...all is well:)
