What Your Mama Never Told You About Sewing...

The Needle Knows !

NeedleKnows

When sewing seams or topstitching or even basting....remember: The sewing machine needle knows what it's doing...you don't have to watch it! The needle does its thing...moving up and down forming stitches, all on its own. Isn't modern technology wonderful? :)

To ensure nice straight seams, topstitching, etc, SIGHT THE FABRIC, NOT THE NEEDLE while sewing. You will be much happier with the results.

I do that. I watch the damn needle not the fabric as it feeds. I never thought of this before, not in this exact way. "Sighting the fabric", Thanks!

I just buy my clothes, its too much trouble to pay someone to custom make them.

Well Morris..that is your perogative. However, there are a lot of $200+ off-the-rack shirts that are poorly made, and don't fit correctly.

My clients value superb fit and the use of luxury fabrics.

When you are ready to experience the difference, contact me!

Hey Abraham...cool! I wish more men knew how to sew.

Glad your momma taught you the right way. :) Too many people get into the habit of watching what the needle is doing rather than watching what the FABRIC is doing...and it's the fabric that's important!

At first thought, I thought this was pretty obvious, But, after sewing some this morning and paying attention to what I was doing, I found out that if I paid more attention to where the fabric was going instead of trying to watch the needle AND the fabric at the SAME time(habit), that my seams were much better.

Thanks for the tip. Keep 'em coming, please.

A simple but very important concept. Thank-you for reminding (teaching) us. I really love your blog.

Thanks so much for making your blog informational. It is so nice to be able to find useful knowledge instead of "Look at what I sewed today", or God forbid, "Look at my stupid pets and what I sewed today".

LOL CJ,

Unless my pets take up garment sewing or fashion design, they won't be featured here!
