Computer Woes :(
Hi everyone !
There are some things in life that just happen...sigh. Over the weekend my 7 year old computer went "poof"! It died and I lost everything that wasn't backed up. And what was backed up..well...some of it is not compatible with Windows 7...like blog posts I had prepared off-line with Microsoft Works...which doesn't exist on the new system I had to rush out and buy this past Sunday.
So bear with me as I go through some OMG days trying to get new blog posts and photos that were saved to disk to download on my new system..sigh..sigh...sigh.
OK..time for another phone convo with the "Geek Squad" !

Oh dear - poor you :(
I've been there - had a flash drive full of files go bad on me once (it got so hot plugged into the PC that I needed an oven glove to pull it out LOL!)
I'm so sorry! It's happened to me, and I completely feel your pain. For those posts you wrote, you might try downloading OpenOffice. I think it's compatible with MSWorks. It's a free download at www.openoffice.org I'm not affiliated, just a happy consumer. :o) I downloaded it when my computer crashed and I had to buy a new laptop that had nothing on it. So far, I've found it to work very well. Good luck! Happy Tuesday! :o)
I know the Geek Squad well and love them to pieces! They have rescued me more than once.
This can all be so so frustrating. You will be up and running before you know it.
Oh no! thank you for keeping up the blog and all. I learn so much from you!
Take your time, we won't desert you. I can empathize with you on your computer. My husband spent the better part of a week trying to find the bug making YouTube videos run slow. Come to find out that it was our modem failing. But he had backed up my computer and reloaded everything from scratch and didn't put it back the same way. I was missing some important stuff. Fortunately it was only misfiled.
Anyway, godd luck.
oh been there done that :( I hope you get to keep all your files and pics, I lost a LOT Of family pics last time this happened to me. Good Luck!
Ooooooooooo - why are we so dependant on the confounded things!!! I passed on a blogger award to you...check out my blog for more information...congratulations

Not sure if this helps, but if you click on any word processing file, WordPerfect will often convert it automatically, regardless of the format or file extension (although you lose any formatting). I think MS Word does this as well. Right now I'm fighting with an external drive that insists on being reformatted, which will ruin my own backup, so I'm right there with you, sister! :-P
Anyway, my point was that once you get another word processing program installed under Win7, try to open your old files and see if they'll import. You might be pleasantly surprised!
