My New Bundle of PRESSING Joy!
OH BOY! I have a brand new really Large and Wonderful
Tailor's Pressing Ham!
Isn't she beautiful?
As you can see...this new Ham of mine is so much larger than the ones found at fabric and notions stores.
It is professionally hand-made by Sonia at The Stitch Nerd Shop ...and very reasonably priced for it's size. Oh yes, you need one of these...you really do.
If you have never had a large pressing ham like this one...well...you don't know what you've been missing. The long length of curve gives you so much better control of pressing darts and princess seams...it makes a big difference.
I used to have one just like it during my tailoring apprenticeship, but my EX-husband threw it into the fireplace along with some of my other sewing tools when I announced I was leaving...but that's another story. I did try to make one myself from sawdust begged from a lumber mill...but the thing exploded all over my sewing machine and studio when I tried to stuff and stitch it. I have been using a make-shift version of a large ham...but it's not at all the same as this new one. And really, I suppose I could have tried the whole saw-dust thing again...but to me It just wasn't worth trying again when these are so well-made and reasonably priced.
I have absolutely NO affiliation with this store. I am just extremely impressed with the quality of this product.
So impressed that I just ordered this Ham and Seam-roll Holder...the one I am using now needs to go to the same place that I just tossed my former very ancient (smaller) Ham...into the trash!

One word --- drool. I ahve saved her Etsy shop and am saving up. Thanks for sharing.
I have a ham like that. It's an antique that I bought on eBay. They are great!
Thanks for sharing this Pam, a couple of my students were interested in purchasing these. Sometimes they are hard to find.
I will share this information with them in the classroom.
I had "padded" the smaller ham I had been using and was getting by with it, but this one is SO much better ;)
You are most welcome Alethia :)
Nice! I bought one of her "regular" hams a year ago and I LOVE it, though I've been wanting a larger one. Didn't get one for Christmas, so I'll have to order my own this year. :D
Thank you thank you! I just bought an XL, a new seam roll and the ham holder. Awesome!!
tee-hee...I enjoy being an enabler :)
Hmmm, I see a new addition to my birthday list!
Wow, he really knew how to hit you where it hurt!
Ohmygosh - this is now on the very top of my wish list! Thank you! :)
thank you for the great review pam. I can see exactly why this ham would be such a great addition to my sewing room. the fact is, I don't even own a tailor's ham!
Jilly Be, Bunny, Lynneb... Happy to do it..the quality of these products are very very good. And as you know from the Interfacing I have custom-milled, I have really high standards (that sometimes get me into trouble...just ask Roger...who volunteered to remodel the www.FashionSewingSupply.com Cutting/Packing rooms, In fact, it's time for me to inspect...again. lol)
They look wonderful! So glad I didn't buy the generic cheap ones!

I pretty much just LURK on your blog - but I'm glad you found that ham. I have it on my wish list to buy. I am grateful of your tips & techniques.
Sam
I WANT ONE!
Thanks for this post. I just ordered an extra-large pressing ham. I like the sugar skulls and the pink plaid wool. The price is very reasonable considering what a pain it would be to make one myself, after I chase down sawdust.
momtofatdogs, you are welcome, and I am glad you like my blog...thanks! ...and thanks for leaving a comment :)
Patsijean, Sue, Phyllis, and all...
I might get another size...and it's so cool that you can choose the fabrics you want !!!
I've been looking for a contoured ham for ages and according to her blog Sonia will soon be selling them as well. Can't wait!
I'm new to your blog and am sooo happy to have found it!
I love these hams, and will be ordering in some BRIGHT easily findable colors for my workshop!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the recommendation Pam. I just ordered an XL from Sonia and she is so helpful and good to deal with. Another exciting parcel to look forward to!
